Meet Marie

psychologist, yoga therapist & the human behind the holistic process

I’ve always been fascinated by humans.

Their minds, their bodies, their souls. And how all of those things interact. The Holistic Process is the culmination of years of diving deep into every area of the human condition.

the short story…

My path through life has taken me across the world, from a very young age. My roots are Swedish, but I’ve lived in America, England, South Africa and travelled across Europe. Now, I’ve settled in France with my husband and two lovely little girls - but the itch to learn, experience and immerse myself in other cultures has never left me.

Throughout my various travels, three things have been my constant companion: the drive to learn more about everything; a love of psychology and the human mind; and an obsession with all things yoga. After years in the corporate world, trying to balance the three things that make me tick, The Holistic Process was born. Combining mind, body and soul, The Holistic Process allows me to combine everything I’ve learned and bring it to you, to help you develop as a leader and a human in a fully embodied way.

what matters to me

honesty, transparency, integrity, connection, creativity, flow, inspiration, family, freedom, community, culture.

things I love most

my two lovely little girls. my ever-supportive husband. the thrill of a fresh new notebook. the first snow of the season. a good coffee.

desert island books

some of my favourite reads that influence how I work:

Trauma Sensitive Yoga in Therapy by David Emerson
Radiant Rest by Tracee Stanley
Eastern Body, Western Mind by Anodea Judith
My Grandmothers Hands by Resmaa Menakem
Cracked by James Davies

And the list goes on ……

Growing up with so much exposure to different countries, cultures and people, it’s probably not surprising that I ended up feeling fascinated by the one constant in my life: humans.

I graduated from the University of Cape Town, South Africa in 2001 with a BSc in Psychology & Occupational Psychology and then went on to study an MSc in Occupational Psychology at the University of Leicester, England, graduating in 2012.

Then, unsurprisingly, I followed the traditional ‘get a job and climb the ladder’ career path, working in various business psychology roles for over a decade. I specialised in psychometrics and assessment, using psychological tests to inform individual and team development at all levels, across a variety of industries globally.

Alongside my studies, yoga was my second obsession. When I was 19, after years of gymnastics, I naively thought that yoga was the same thing: throwing shapes with your body.

How wrong I was. I started going to yoga classes regularly and before I had any idea just how impactful yoga was going to be on my life, the one thing that kept me going back was how good I felt afterwards. I loved the more dynamic classes but still had no idea a) what yoga was really about or b) what on earth I was doing… until something changed.

the power of mind & body |

Like all of us at some point in our lives, I found myself feeling stressed. My body was telling me to slow down, to find stillness, to focus on finding headspace. And (for once) I listened.

I turned to yoga more seriously. I started focusing on breath control and found myself in complete awe, fascinated by how our breath is simultaneously completely unconscious and yet completely under our control too. That realisation, that the body and mind are so powerfully connected, triggered something deep within me - and, after the birth of my first daughter in 2016, I took the plunge and completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training qualification. My yoga journey is still ongoing and I’m currently almost finished with a further 550 hours yoga therapy training.

When I facilitate yoga classes, my focus is on creating a space for fluid, focused movement, where you can take the time to reconnect with your breath, your body and your mind to develop greater self-awareness and learn to listen to the subtleties of your body.

It was almost inevitable that my two loves, psychology and yoga, would eventually combine. And that’s how The Holistic Process was born.

Bringing my understanding of and experience in the business world together with my pursuit of yoga and mind-body connection resulted in something that truly shakes up the corporate world.

The Holistic Process is about you - learning to listen to your intuition, your body and your mind, but also learning really embody your self. How I work is based in science and bodily intuition. It’s about creating the space for you to understand your own mind-body connection and develop ways to channel that connection into the outside world, so that you can achieve everything you’re capable of.
